A class for performers, journalists, law enforcers, students of human nature, and change agents.

Learning to ‘Trust, but Verify’ in the New World of Communications:

How to Detect Genuine Performances and Mixed Messages

Presenter: Therese Crowley

  • Good Morning America Radio guest-host
  • Author of Seventh Sense: A Different Way To See
  • Singer/SongwriterPersonal Coach
  • Former WCBS-News Radio Host and Network Anchorwoman
  • Served as AFTRA-NY Board Member

Using only eyes, ears, and senses, without technological aids, students will experience:

  • Reading people: understanding body language, reading the voice, eyes, hands
  • Recognizing what is said and what is left unsaid
  • Distinguishing Effective Performance, Genuine Performance, and Mixed Messages
  • Realizing Differences in Perception: people who hear vs. people who see, people who think vs. people who feel, head vs. heart, combining the two for maximum effectiveness
  • Tuning into your own sixth sense, ‘Trust, but Verify’
  • Noticing when polish becomes too polished
  • Reading the energy of the body
  • Creating a good performance, using both visual and feeling analogies
  • Analyzing head vs. heart messages, and blending the two for maximum effectiveness
  • When to hold’em and when to fold ‘em—when saying what you know is dangerous
  • Martial arts and spiritual strategies for voicing hazardous communications

Therese has presented core concepts from this course at Rutgers University, teaching Communications for Labor Leaders. Her unique experience of building trust through communication produces the effect of bringing healing into corrupted systems. Therese examines the forensic theory that the media climate can contribute to creating more psychopaths in society, and finally, explores attitudes and ways to communicate a news healing cycle. Students form a solid bond, as the class is inherently focused on learning to listen to each other.
